Attan online class with Samia Karimi

We are honored and thrilled to have the amazing Samia Karimi for a unique ONLINE Afghan Attan Dance series. This online workshop is open to all who are curious about the communal circle dance form known as "Attan" - a variety of which exist both within and outside the borders of Afghanistan. It is believed that Attan has existed for thousands of years and is the one dance form that has flourished for centuries across many regions. Attan has had various roles in Afghan society, and these days it is mostly performed at weddings, festivals and social gatherings. The first part of this workshop will be a brief presentation summarizing what we know about Attan as well as the instruments traditionally used. You will learn a choreographed version of Attan, including some popular movements that exist today.

Sundays 9:30-11am pst on zoom

Recordings will be available for one week post class.
