As-salaam alaykum! Happy December! Last month was the culmination of months of hard work to share this year’s dance concert “Bayt-Home.” The response was amazing and deeply inspiring. The connection we have within our dance company reverberated on and offstage. We find home and belonging with each other. This extends to the amazing dance artists we get to work with as well. It was such a pleasure and honor to share the stage with our special guest artists~ Samia Karimi, Esraa Warda, and Izumi Fairbanks. They each brought such heartfelt work exploring the concept of home from their birth place to their diaspora communities.
Additionally we debuted our latest work, “To Look, Feel, Be” as part of “Awe & Wonder,” a project that teams up choreographers with scientists. Our artistic director, Aubre Hill, was invited to be part of this year’s production and thus collaborated with Yajie Zhao to create a piece about AI technology and what it means to be human. To say the last few weeks have been full would be an understatement.
While Palestine is still under attack, a ceasefire was just now implemented in Lebanon, the US braces for the upcoming presidential change, and so much more, it can be easy to drown. But dancing together continues to nurture our hope in our collective and the possibility of a vibrant future together. Thank you for supporting the work we do.
